1. Strip Out the Old Kitchen

2. Upgrade Insulation & Substrate

  • Ceiling:
    • Install 75 mm PIR boards (rigid foam insulation, excellent thermal performance).
    • Fix 12.5 mm XPS tile backer boards underneath for a solid surface.
      • Use proper fixings and stagger joints for stability.
  • Walls:
    • Line with 12.5 mm XPS tile backer boards.
      • Use proper fixings and stagger joints for stability.

3. Plan & Mark Layout

  • Use a laser level to mark:
    • Cabinet positions
    • Socket/switch heights
    • Appliance connections (water, gas, electrical)

4. Prepare the Subfloor(if lower than the main house)

  • Lay a cement screed to build up the base
    Concrete/Mortar
    • Screed is cheaper than using excessive self-levelling compound.
    • Allow screed to cure fully before proceeding.

5. Apply Self-Levelling Compound

  • Prime the surface before pouring self-leveller.
  • Pour and spread the compound evenly.
    • Use spiked shoes/roller to remove air bubbles.
  • Allow it to dry completely before installing flooring or cabinets.
