1. Remove Old Fillet

  • Chip out cracked or loose fillet material until you reach solid concrete.
  • Brush away all dust and debris.

2. Prepare Surface

  • Lightly spray/dampen the area with clean water so it doesn’t suck moisture out of the fresh mortar.

3. Mix Mortar

  • Mix 4 parts sharp sand : 1 part cement.
  • Add water gradually until it’s workable (not sloppy).
  • Stir in waterproofing admixture (SBR or waterproofer/plasticiser) according to instructions.

4. Apply New Fillet

  • Press mortar firmly into place at the wall base.
  • Shape it into a neat sloping edge away from the wall to shed water.
  • Smooth the surface with your trowel.

5. Curing

  • Mortar needs at least 24–48 hours before it hardens enough to resist rain.
  • Full curing takes about 7 days (it keeps gaining strength up to 28 days).
  • During curing:
    • Mist it with water daily, or
    • Cover with plastic sheet or damp cloth to stop it drying out too quickly.
    • Keep it shaded if possible (avoid hot sun or frost).

6. Waterproof Coat

  • Full curing takes about 7 days

7. Exterior Masonry Paint

  • Prime with a exterior/masonry primer.
  • Paint with exterior masonry paint for colour and UV protection.
